Bill waiving driver license reinstatement fees for former convicts passes
Currently, many former convicts are unable to reactivate their drivers licenses because they cannot pay these fees, and this places them in a downward spiral because, without a drivers license, they may not be able to get a job or attend probation or parole check ins or other mandatory meetings, which may in turn lead them to returning to crime or prior behaviors that led them to prison in the first place.
Senate Bill 66 will help former convicts reenter society after they complete their sentence by exempting them from paying a drivers license reinstatement fee or other fees resulting from a suspended or revoked drivers license.
The bill has passed both the House and Senate unanimously and it now heads to the Governors desk for his signature.
