If you've passed the Watergate or Rock Creek Trail and wondered what's behind the fences,

here’s the answer:

We’re building the Potomac River Tunnel, a 5.5-mile underground system that will:
✅ Go under DC, dug by massive tunnel boring machines
✅ Capture stormwater and sewage before it pollutes the Potomac
✅ Include diversion chambers, drop shafts, and overflow structures to protect our rivers year-round
It’s one of the largest clean water projects in DC’s history, and it’s happening right in our backyard.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.

Tell me more...
