Severe thunderstorm watch issued for the immediate DC area and points northeast through 4p Thursday.

Showers and storms passing through northern half of region now (12:15p Thursday)...but high winds are most likely as cold front passes from west to east in next hour, and in the front's wake. Gusts of at least 40 to 50 mph are possible.

I just hung up a few things on the line. The wind is up, from the northwest. I am in Alexandria. I still have blue skies, but I think they won't last long.

I had a window open. It is now shut.

'officially' WNW @ 20 mph, 'mostly sunny' with clouds. 70 degrees.

9. Saw several downed trees on my social distance walk just now

so it must have been windier than I thought earlier today.

7. Started snowing in Central Maine 2 hours ago. At least 3 inches of heavy wet snow already and

could go to 12-18". Total white out conditions now.
