fast, intense winds and powerful sheets of rain in NoVa. Roof and porch still on (so far) & hopefully it's passed. Internet & power ok too, fingers crossed.

Tree limbs & more tomorrow could be some trouble.

The reports of 'derecho' this week brought back memories of the awful summer of 2012 and our fast 'Flight from Metropolis.'

2012: it was ugly 97 degree heat, all power out, no a/c, people lined in convenience stores couldn't buy anything w/o cash since registers were down. Same with ATMs, pharmacies. But a good 'prep' lesson in one sense.

We had some gas, found more early on, enuff to make it to Delmarva.

Lucky to escape even with mass traffic along the way & an extended 5 hour trip.

Nobody I knew really cared that much about cell phone, smart phone or constant internet access then, except to contact close ones. It was nice.
