'Crazy cold: The low this morning (Sunday) in DC of 46 degrees is the coldest on this date since it was 45 in 1937... and also the coldest in the Sept. 1-20 period since Sept. 18, 1937 (when it was also 45)
Parts of our region even dipped into the upper 30s with frost!'

(130,903 posts)'Just like that, summer has flipped to fall in Washington. The change was unambiguous and swift, and theres no sign well turn back in a meaningful way.
Its time for a wardrobe switch-over from shorts and T-shirts to blue jeans and fleeces.
As recently as this past weekend and Monday, it still felt like beach and pool weather. High temperatures in Washington soared to at least the upper 70s like they had every day since mid-June.
But Tuesday, highs only managed the low 70s, where theyve hovered since. This weekend into early next week, theyll turn even cooler, only reaching the 60s.
The dip in low temperatures has been even more jarring. Most of the time since June, nights have been balmy, with lows of at least 70 degrees. We even set a record for most nights in a row above that mark between July and August. But both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, we awoke to chilly 50s with even some 40s in our outlying areas.
This weekend, lows will slip into the 40s area-wide. . .
The rapid weather regime transition is related to a change in the jet stream pattern. The fast current of high-altitude winds has plunged south, allowing Canadian air to pour over the region. Much of the northeast third of the country will see temperatures about 10 degrees cooler than normal this weekend.'>>>
