Forecasters call for at least 10 times as much snow in Washington this winter compared to last.
But thats only around 10 inches and still below average.
'During the entirety of last winter, just 0.6 inches of snow coated the Washington region, the third least amount on record. During the upcoming winter, its not going out on a limb to predict we will exceed that amount. But the question is: By how much?
The consensus among meteorologists in private industry who produce seasonal forecasts is that the upcoming winter will bring at least 10 times as much snow as last winter, but thats setting the floor at 6 inches, which isnt a whole lot. Between 1981 and 2010, Washington averaged 15.4 inches annually.
We interviewed via email seven forecasters who either own their own forecasting business or represent larger companies. All but two predicted just 10 inches or so for the winter. The two outliers are calling for more than 20 inches, offering a glimmer of hope for area snow lovers.'>>>
