Hat tip, this morning's Washington Post Express.
Do not miss this video:
Lifelike polar bear roams streets of London
{ETA, Thursday}: which is at YouTube here:
Polar bear appears to stroll onto packed Tube train in front of startled commuters
It's been pretty chilly lately. But surely not this cold. A polar bear appears to have turned up in London. The 8ft-long creature was spotted in Hampstead Heath, the London Underground and the South Bank.

The animated animal was constructed by 19 prop specialists, who spent two months designing and building the replica bear.

Two puppeteers from the West End show War Horse controlled the movements of the bear, which was built to promote Sky Atlantic's new "Arctic-noir" series Fortitude, from inside.
Animatronic polar bear roams Hampstead Heath Credit: PAWe wanted to bring a realistic polar bear to the streets of London to give people an up-close experience of what it must be like to come face-to-face with one of the biggest, but uncredited stars of our new show.

(2,382 posts)I used to work for the animatronics company that built the F.A.O. Schwarz clock tower featured in the Tom Hanks movie, "BIG." We built some cool stuff, but never a polar bear! Our stuff was pneumatically actuated, so it couldn't walk around. The dogs didn't seem to take a shine to it!

(5 posts)In the USA, what are the chances someone would have whipped out their concealed carry and shot the "bear"?

(2,603 posts)because when they do it with an endangered species it give me the creeps after seeing 'Blade Runner' and actually reading the book 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'
We have already had 1984 come to pass, much of Fahrenheit 451 is too close to reality, and same with Brave New World. The Katrina disaster brought up images of Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by Octavia Butler; all while DARPA is doing its best to bring about the worst of the Terminator series and Robocop.
Next thing we'll find out zombies are real... Wait that does explain Palin a bit.
I need to find other books and movies fast.
