Central Florida teachers resigning due to COVID-19 pandemic

The teacher's union in Orange County says the number of teachers resigning has increased due to the coronavirus pandemic.

WESH 2 News spoke with Ashley Craig, a teacher at Riverside Elementary in Orlando. She made the decision to resign during the pandemic for reasons which include constant changes and COVID-19.

"That is a huge concern for me. Honestly, I've been face-to-face in a blended (learning styles) classroom, or a face-to-face classroom for the majority of the school year. The hardest thing about this year is the ever changing of it all," Craig said.

WESH 2 News reached out to Orange, Seminole and Osceola County school districts for information on teacher resignations.

I don't blame them one bit. I expect to see this happen all over the place where schools are under pressure to open and stay open even with positive COVID cases. It's sad. Sad for the teachers, sad for the students, sad for the parents.

I hope Floridians recall DeSantis and hit him with a gigantic class action lawsuit.

And most of this chaos could have been avoided.

It’s bad enough that we already had a teacher shortage before this. Not good. Of course paying 30 grand a year and an annual contract doesn’t help. Yep. If after a year, they can say bye! Actually they can for up to ten years I believe.
