Deplorable! What Nan Rich has to put up with from Florida Dem Party Chair...

It's just so hard to believe. Charlie's campaign is weak. It's weak with dems now, because he won't debate. He says why help her to get known? The people have a right to a debate on our policy here. It's the process. The party would not allow her to speak at dem convention while she was the ONLY declared candidate! That's what you get with a corporate wing appointed by Bill Nelson chair!

It's a coronation that is wearing thin on democrats.

It is deplorable.

2. Crist's weak campaign has raised 10 times the amount of money that Rich's campaign did

Crist's weak campaign leads Rich 59% to 16%:

I am definitely not a Charlie Crist fan (do a search of DU in 2010) but it is just plain silly to say that Crist's campaign is weak.

It's not necessary to avoid her. It just creates bad blood, when it's an off election and we need every vote! Too many say they are skipping that race and don't care if Scott remains.

Now that's just crazy!

4. I've Lived In FL For A VERY Long Time...
Fri Jun 20, 2014, 02:01 PM
Jun 2014

My husband was born in Tampa, but we were Army brats and met while our fathers were stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. I only say this because I was glad to MOVE from TX, a place I never cared for much, even back then. When I moved here FL was MUCH more Democratic, I thought Bob Graham was great as a Governor & Senator, even though he was not as liberal as I am. Still, at least he was against the war and said so at the time.

Regardless, I'm still glad I don't live in TX! However, I'm also extremely upset with the state Democratic Party and my local Democratic Party. The best I can say is that they're DLC types, which isn't saying much. I've tried being involved but I generally feel like a fish out of water (pun intended)! I live in the "heart" of RED on the west coast and there are many, many wealthy people here who are mostly Repukes, so for me the thought of having to see "the alien" Rick Scott re-elected is more than I can deal with.

I was FURIOUS that so many Democrats in this state didn't realize that voting for Kendrick Meek as opposed to Crist was actually a vote for Rubio. What's worse is that I'm getting the sinking feeling that Democrats here will "muck" it up again! Whether Rich is a true Democrat or not is something I have to ignore, given all that I've seen of Democrats in power here. Yes, there are some more liberal types, Alan Grayson for one, but many are DINOs at best. It's hard for me to imagine that this state will elect a Democrat that's really going to fight as hard as I would like against Repukes. These days it seems too many Democrats from every state are wimpish! I'm white, but my observation is that blacks & latinos are the ones who REALLY put up the fight against the other side.

I do admit I don't know much about Nan Rich, but I also know I want SCOTT GONE! Regardless of Crist's past he did govern more moderately as a Governor than I thought he would. I didn't vote for him then, but I will vote for him now. I was also one of those who went off the ranch and voted for him against Rubio!

I suppose I can only cross my fingers and make a wish that more Democrats realize that unless something huge happens, Rich probably can't win. Pointing fingers at the Party is something I can't fix right now, but voting for Rich isn't going to help us get rid of Scott. I have heard that Crist is finally bringing up Scott & his HCA felonious activities which is something I felt Crist should have been doing all along. The man should be in prison as far as I'm concerned!

We can wish for a more progressive aggressive Democratic Party, but right now Rich should see the handwriting on the wall. In my county, we did have a woman running for Representative to Congress and she was a fighter, but instead of the local Party standing along with her, they threw her under the bus and decided Christine Jennings had a better chance of winning. THAT race was a real screw up and I'm not sure Buchanan really won fairly. It was strongly contested, but in the end Buchanan is STILL up there! Ands he's a CROOK too!

Crazy or not, seems holding your nose kind of comes with the territory many times. Scott has to go!

5. Yes. While I'll likely vote for Rich in the primary...

I'll gladly vote for Crist in the GE vs. Scott. Like you, I found Crist much more moderate a Gov than expected, even tho I didn't vote for him then either.
Agreed, the FDP is one huge dysfunctional mess dominated by DLCers. I know of several instances where they've fought tooth and nail to keep progressives out of local parties, and several instances of them fighting to keep progressive candidates off the ballot to protect republican incumbent friends.

6. I just got a robo cal from Nan Rich. I didn't even know who she was until the call.
Sat Jun 21, 2014, 11:21 AM

I gotta say because of that call I went to her web site (www.nanrich2014.com ). Several issues stood out for me.

Supreme Court Appointments

"One of the most important – and long-lasting – privileges of a Florida Governor is to appoint Justices of the Florida Supreme Court and other judges. As governor, Nan Rich will appoint judges and Justices who are highly qualified, fair and impartial, and dedicated to equal protection under the law. Nan is committed to a non-political court system, where all Floridians have confidence that their cases are being decided in an unbiased and evenhanded manner.

It's important to note that the next Governor will appoint a majority of the Florida Supreme Court (4 out of 7 Justices). As Republican Governor, Charlie Crist appointed Charles Canady and Ricky Polston, two of the most right wing conservative judges to the Florida Supreme Court. "

GMO

Nan Rich strongly believes people should know what's in their food. Companies should be required to label genetically engineered food so that people can make an informed decision about what they buy to feed their families. As Governor of Florida, Rich would work toward implementing legislation that would require GMOs to be properly labeled.

Voting Rights

As Governor, Nan Rich will prioritize legislation to expand access to voting, and will veto any legislation that attempts to suppress voter registration or inhibits the ability of voters to exercise their right to vote.

Minimum Wage

Nan Rich is fully committed to raising the minimum wage from $7.93 an hour to $10.10 an hour.

I don't know how much of a chance she has, but would appreciate DUer's opinion of her.

7. She was leader of the senate and championed all the dem bills in the senate.
Sat Jun 21, 2014, 06:02 PM

She was also THE sponsor for the ERA every year! She has fought on women's issues and held them back.

Look, primaries are not evil. Dems want to vote for her. Of course we will not be voting for er Scott or staying home. But to say she's irrelevant, no one knows her, Crist should not have to debate her, is just bullshit. She's done more in the senate than he ever did as governor or edu commissioner! So....what's driving the wedge is we are told to coronate Crist, ignore someone who has fought for our ideals forever, and to believe primaries are not to be respected.

This pisses people off...and they just don't get it.

8. Yes, I read her bio and I was very impressed with her career.

I don't really follow Fl politics very much, mainly because I live in a red area and it just frustrate the heck out of me. Plus the Fl Democratic Party doesn't seem to put too much effort into local elections. After the last realignment of districts I was hoping they would try to capture my district. The realignment left the district w/o a sitting Rep. John Mica had been the Rep and was pretty much unbeatable. So I was hoping they (Fl Dem Party) would really get behind a good candidate and try to pick up a seat. But, no go. Not so much as a robocall or mailer. So disappointing.

Why won't the Fl Dem Party push for a debate? Do they feel she has less of a chance to beat Scott than Crist?

9. Unfortunately, Most People I Talk To Either Don't Know Here OR
Mon Jun 23, 2014, 02:46 PM
Jun 2014

they don't think she can beat Scott. But, if Dems here want to RISK her losing if she wins the primary, then go ahead and vote for her in primary. Very few people I know have any idea who she is. BOTTOM LINE for me is to GET RID OF RICK SCOTT! So, I'll just stick with what I said, I'll vote for Crist in primary & general because it's what I PERSONALLY think is the best thing to do.

I'm seeing some handwriting on the wall, and frankly it's beginning to scare me. YES, she probably has more cred as a Democrat than Crist, but I've seen this before... Vote splitting screws Dems and gives Scott more of a chance. Others can disagree, but if she were more well known my thoughts would be different.

Sometimes I just have to throw my hands up in the air and just scream! More of "the alien" is gonna be toooooo much for me to deal with, but it is what it is. I'm tired of arguing!

It's an excuse to say that. Of course they don't "know her". How many politicians do people really know? You must research, do your homework.
