Santa Rosa suffered due to election delay. Bill may force governor to act faster

Due to a delayed special election, a large swath of Santa Rosa County residents had no state representative working on their behalf during the 2025 legislative session.

A new bill could prevent that from happening again.

Gov. Ron DeSantis' erratic behavior as it comes to deciding when Florida special elections will be held has prompted a pair of Democratic lawmakers to file legislation that would force him to act with expediency.

Though its road to passage looks rocky at best, Senate Bill 460 could actually resonate in deeply conservative Santa Rosa County, where earlier this year not having representation in State House District 3 proved disastrous to efforts to secure funding appropriations.
