Nearly 30,000 Leon County voters have already cast ballots in Tuesday's general election.
More than 16 percent of Leon County voters have already cast ballots in Tuesday's general election through mail ballots and early voting, putting the county on pace to surpass numbers seen in the last gubernatorial election.
As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 30,000 voters had cast ballots in the election, which will determine whether Republican Gov. Rick Scott serves a second term or former Gov. Charlie Crist, a former Republican turned Democrat, will return to the Governor's Mansion. More than half of the votes over 15,000 came from early voting, with most of the rest from mail ballots.
In the last mid-term election in 2010, some 18,594 people voted early over a 12-day period at four different locations. Early voting this year began Oct. 20 at seven locations and runs through Saturday, for a total of 13 days.
"We won't surpass the presidential turnout (of 2012)," said Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho, "but we're seeing a much higher degree of interest in the citizens over the 2010 election. So that's good I believe you can judge the health of the community by its participation in things like elections, and I think we're going to have a good turnout here."

I misheard last night - early voting is more than in 2010, the last midterm election, but not more than in the last presidential election. It's still GREAT news to hear that voting is up!
