Florida making bids for Conn. businesses

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Another state is now trying to lure big businesses from Connecticut south. Now Florida’s governor is planning a trip here to try and get the companies to relocated.

This comes as those big businesses are threatening to leave over tax hikes in the new budget.

Florida’s Governor is telling companies, if you don’t like Connecticut’s business taxes, then just leave. And that is exactly what some of them threatened to do when those tax increases were announced three weeks ago.

Republican Governor Rick Scott is trying to capitalize on that feeling and lure businesses out of the nutmeg state and into the sunshine state. He says taxes are lower in Florida, and the state is less friendly to unions, as well.

Texas and Indiana have already tried the same thing. Governor Scott says he will come to Connecticut and meet with companies that don’t like the higher taxes passed by democrats in the General Assembly earlier this month. The Florida Economic development agency is already running radio commercials here, promoting his visit.

The ad says:

“If you’re a business that wants to pay less taxes so you can earn more money, come to Florida. Florida Governor Rick Scott is coming to Connecticut to share the Florida story of low taxes and more jobs.”
