Mayor Curry: 356 residents rescued from Hurricane Irma flooding in Jacksonville

Jacksonville is starting to repair and rebuild Tuesday after the city was hit hard by a powerful storm system that tore through the state of Florida over the weekend and into Monday.

Mayor Lenny Curry said 356 residents had to be rescued from rising flood waters and storm damage that came with Hurricane Irma.

“It was a sight to be seen,” Curry said of the rescue effort.

The mayor took a flight around Northeast Florida with Gov. Rick Scott to assess damage Tuesday. They said the flooding was obviously still a problem throughout the area, but officials are working to alleviate any issues for residents.
