Democrats attack 20 years of one-party rule in Jacksonville forum

The Democratic competitors took no shots at each other during an hour-long forum this week in Jacksonville. Instead, the quintet all struck a common chord that 20 years of GOP control of Tallahassee, has in the words of Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, not "been good for Florida."

"A state of emergency," was Jeff Greene's take on what has happened since a Democrat last won a governor's race.

The lack of division among the Democrats may be at the heart of nearly a quarter of voters having yet to pick a candidate with mail-in ballots circulating and early voting set to begin Aug. 18.

For nearly a year, Philip Levine and Gwen Graham battled to be the Democrat’s nominee with Gillum and Orlando businessman Chris King trailing behind.
