State workers: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' budget bolder and better for everyone -- but them
Gov. Ron DeSantis called it a bolder, brighter, better budget proposal, but for most of the 97,000 rank-and-file state of Florida workers it is more of the same another year, no pay raise.
Since 2010, Floridas population has increased by nearly 3 million people while the state workforce has dropped by more than 6,000. That means more work for those left behind, the same people who have received one stand-alone, across-the-board pay raise since 2007.
Since that time, inflation has gobbled up about 25% of their purchasing power, according to AFSCME, the union that represents nearly half the state workers.
He used the terms bolder, brighter and better for everyone except for those we are asking to carry out and implement policies, said Rep. Loranne Ausley, D-Tallahassee. Ausley represents more than 19,000 state workers who live in Leon County.
