According to medical and scientific experts, loosening stay at home orders in Florida would be one of the last measures we should take at this time. Until our state is prepared to invest in reliably testing for the virus and antibodies, reopening some businesses, especially those where social distancing is practically impossible, is sheer lunacy.
Considering loosening restrictions at this point in time indicates our Republican controlled state government is comfortable with risking working class lives to reduce unemployment benefits. Our state's response to the pandemic thus far has been highly unethical and decidedly immoral.
Heed the epidemiological experts rather than greedy corporate executives, and you can perhaps find a morally correct path forward to craft public policy that will save lives rather than destroy them.

Reopening Florida does not make sense right now, unless the point is to stick it to the working class...again. Based on what is being considered, it appears the state thinks the lowest paid workers should be at the greatest risk to contract and spread the disease. If you are making your decision in order to save money on unemployment payments or improve your unemployment numbers to boost reelection chances, your priorities are completely out of whack and are morally questionable. Not to mention un-Christian. This is coming from a couple who both work on government contracts, thus are able to work at home fully paid at good salaries for the duration. Yes, I'd like to get a haircut, but protecting the life of my hairstylist is more important. I know my opinions won't sway Republicans in power, I just wanted you to know our thoughts and why we will never vote for a Republican ever again as long as we live.

(24,653 posts)One of those who was Republican because his family was. It didn't really take a lot to move the needle with him during the Bush administration. The Tea Party crap with Obama really ticked him off and now he is not only a never Trumper, but a never GOPer.
He's a registered Republican so they get the mail and robo calls so they can keep more informed on what the GOP around here is doing.

(24,653 posts)Very rarely do we have Democratic primaries in this area. Hell, a lot of election cycles we can't even get a Democrat to run in the General. So he stays Republican to vote for the most moderate one on the primary ballot.
