Related: About this forumI fear Brevard County is going to get even worse. Now a law enforcement power grab.
We have a structure of government at the county level that works well enough, I suppose, under maintenance conditions. But crises reveal a lack of leadership, ineffective communication, and a troubling potential for poor governance.
Our county has the most activated Emergency Operations Center in the state of Florida. We activate any time there is a launch. The director of Emergency Operations resigned recently. She had been the director for eight years and was awesome! I honestly could not say enough good things about her. She will be big shoes to fill.
Yesterday, our local paper reported that the county sheriff would like emergency operations to report to his office.
Hell to the fuck no! Wayne Ivey is one of the last people on the planet who should ever be given more power or authority. He's a grandiose, attention-seeking, gun fetish, Trumpist. This scares the daylights out of me.

That cabin in the Shenandoah valley on 27 acres of land is starting to look really enticing about now. I love my home, but if all of my kids were out of high school and college (in state tuition), I think I'd be out of here in a heart beat.

And putting Ivey in charge of anything seems to be a very bad idea.
How big is that cabin?

(171,056 posts)I went out today for the first time in weeks, sat in the truck mostly. I was shocked to see so many out and about. Way too peoply out there for me considering what the repercussions could be.

(2,302 posts)Since we have a Trump-lover for governor, I am disgusted that this may happen.
Our local numbers are rising, too...did you see? EIGHT new cases in Brevard, two in my zip code. I had been venturing out a bit more frequently to the market, but I guess I'll be cutting back down.
And if I have to, I can always move back home to New York.

(24,653 posts)As much as I'm NOT a Walmart fan, they seem to have the safest options around here. Completely contactless. My sister and a friend raved about the service so I'm about to check it out myself. Headed out to get my groceries now.
Oh, and I emailed all five of the county commissioners begging them not to put Ivey in charge of EO. Like they ever listen to me!

(171,056 posts)If they say 8, it could be 88. Numbers seem way too low for me; I've been watching for months and given the number of people in Brevard, makes no sense. People have been loading up Lowe's, WW, Home Depot parking lots since this began.
And 'hi' from a fellow NYer, LI, though I don't know how safe it is there. At least they have Cuomo, who I love and trust much more than this moron!

(24,653 posts)She's already made up her mind to cede authority to Ivey and doesn't need no stinkin' feasibility study. Can't say I was expecting anything less from her.
