Gov. Bruce Rauner made the cover of the conservative National Review in a scathing critique, dubbing him the worst Republican governor in America.
The governor already has been called a vulnerable Republican by Democratic groups seeking to oust him next year.
And some conservative Republicans have become disenchanted over his signing of a bill expanding taxpayer funding of abortion.
But the cover story complete with unflattering caricature in the December of National Review, often called the Bible of American conservatism, is perhaps the highest level criticism yet of the first-term governor.

If you're republican, you know it's really, really bad when the National Review names you the worst.

(749 posts)He avoided social issues like the plague hoping the "r's" would hold their nose and vote for him. IL has too many areas where voters would vote for Hitler if there was an "-r" behind his name on the ballot. In my previous voting precinct, a person ran for a county seat as a Dem and lost. Two years later, he ran on the same platform but with an "-r" behind his name. He won the seat.
Rauner, walking poster child for why money has to removed from politics, was not a Thompson or Edgar gov candidate. I too think he will not be re-elected. We can thank the "r's" in DC for the help (aka the "tax reform" package). Upside is we have a Dem candidate (a viable candidate) for my congressional district.
