Illinois bill would allow e-learning for schools serving as polling places on Election Day
A new bill proposed Thursday in the Illinois House would allow e-learning in school districts on Election Day.
Democratic Rep. Maura Hirschauer, who serves the 49th state House District west of Chicago, proposed Illinois House Bill 4535, which would allow school district boards to adopt and verify districtwide e-learning programs. The bill permits student instruction to be received electronically while students are not physically present on Election Day because a school has been selected as a polling place.
The bill also states that e-learning days cannot exceed the minimum number of emergency days allotted during a school year, and predetermined e-learning days must be evaluated and approved annually.
According to the bill text, The school boards approval of a school districts initial e-learning program and renewal of the e-learning program shall be for a term of three school years, beginning with the first school year in which the program was approved and verified by the regional office of education or intermediate service center for the school district.
