Iowa nonprofit joins lawsuit after USDA cancels $2.5 million grant for beginning farmers
AMANA, Iowa (KCRG) - An Eastern Iowa nonprofit joined a lawsuit demanding the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) provide a reason for cutting funding to programs that help underserved farmers after the federal government canceled grants to 50 different programs.
Iowa Valley Resource Conservation and Development lost $2.5 million after the USDA took back a grant in March.

The nonprofit joined a lawsuit to demand the USDA say why it made the cuts to the Increasing Land, Capital, and Market Access Program.
Executive Director Jason Grimm said when he tried to ask why the nonprofit’s grant was canceled, he was told it was because of decisions made by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
“They said, because of the secretary’s new priorities that the program was no longer a priority to them. So they just ended it, even though ultimately they had contracts in place,” Grimm said.
