Iowa
Related: About this forumJust got a push poll type callfrom the Ernst campaign
It is kind of cool being the Republican demographic.
Started out with a "joni is a mother and an Iowan..." Then they went into the "Braley hates farmers (EPA vote)" and a couple of other things I can't remember.
It was a live caller reading a script, so at the very end "this call paid for by..." I screamed as loud as I could "YOU ARE NUTS." The guy said "What?" I said "You are nuts. She's owned by the Koch brothers and won't do a goddamned thing for Iowa." {click} on the other end.
Reported immediately to my local dem office.
We can't do much this year. I am having severe back pain, so I was glad to do a little duty for my party!

(14,449 posts)To have them do the same thing? Is it effective? Money is precious so just because the Republicans are wasting their money doesn't mean we have too. They are calling Democratic voters....how dumb!

(62,416 posts)I call the Democratic headquarters so that they are aware that such calls are being made into our area. Therefore if they want to do some sort of counter action they can. Usually it is just for awareness at that level. This is usually more effective for state races, but at any level sometimes this info can be important to local party workers.
I am currently registered as a democrat. Since Iowa's primary is such that a person can declare themselves a party member of either party and then vote in their primary (crossover). I have done this several times to vote against Terry Branstad. Add to that that I am older, white male and rural, I am their demographic. So when they are doing their push polling I usually get a blast from them.
Now when the guy who called me fills out his call sheet and he puts me down as anti-Ernst it will probably fuck up his day.
So they are not calling Democrats, they are calling their base and maybe some supposed leaners. But it is always good to know what the opposition is up to.
No Vested Interest
(5,167 posts)I think they sometimes choose by zip codes.
I also try to notify a Democratic office after, in case they are not aware of what the Republicans are up to.

(5,554 posts)Very nasty BS on the phone targeting seniors. He lived with us for a couple years before moving to a nursing home and we had a steady stream of calls trashing Braley.
