Kansas bill would allow firework sales year-round, 'We are losing a lot of revenue'

Kansas lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow firework sales year-round, a move that could help small businesses and the state's coffers collect more revenue.

The Senate Commerce Committee held a Tuesday hearing on Senate Bill 378, which expands the existing season for firework sales around the Fourth of July while also permitting year-round retail sales.

The bill was introduced at the request of Sen. Caryn Tyson, R-Parker, who said constituents Sarah Beagel and Brent Aiello had approached her to ask for the legislation.

"This isn't for the big business people," Tyson said. "This is literally for the mom and pops. And I appreciate you guys reaching out. This is how the process is supposed to work."

I suffer from fibromyalgia as well as bad sciatica and pot would help me a hell of a lot more than fireworks going off all the time! We have enough of them going off at odd hours now, as it is. Drives my puppy-who-would-be-pony nuts. It is NOT good for me trying to teach him commands to be obeyed. Nor is it good for his emotional disposition, no doubt. My cats probably hate it, too.

Meanwhile, everyone loves it when Mom is mellow and cool...!

The state must have had a reason to limit sales way back when.

Is that reason now invalid?

Safety? Nuisance?

about a week before the fourth (in my town) a guy was making illegal fireworks in the basement of a duplex he was living in, and blew himself up and also burned down a good part of the duplex. So he accidentally killed himself and endangered the lives of others on the other side of the duplex and neighbors. So guess I would say I would be against this if I lived in KS. I live in neighboring MO. Hope our state house doesn’t get any stupid ideas. They have enough stupid ideas already.

Missouri will import the law from Kansas! The only thing that hasn't been imported has been MO's law on medical MJ into KS. Lord knows, KS can't stand the thought of someone, somewhere, being happy.
