Former Coldwater mayor released from jail after pleading guilty to election crimes, records show
CHASE COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) The former mayor of Coldwater, Kansas, who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor election crimes has been released from jail, records indicate.
Jose Joe Ceballos, turned himself in to Immigration and Customs Enforcement the morning of May 13, following the order from immigration officials.
Sarah Baldaras, the attorney representing Ceballos, said Wednesday that he received a $3,000 bond and was hoping for him to be released this week. Ceballos no longer appeared on the Chase County Jails website on Thursday afternoon.
In April, Ceballos pleaded guilty to misdemeanor election charges tied to voting as a non-citizen.
The Department of Homeland Security said Ceballos committed several felonies when he illegally voted in numerous elections in the United States. He was originally charged with three counts of voting without being qualified and three counts of election perjury.
