Felicia Kahn, fighter for equal rights and Louisiana Democratic Party activist, dies at 91

Felicia Kahn, an indomitable warrior for equal rights and a pillar of New Orleans Democratic politics, died Thursday after a brief illness. She was 91.

Kahn, known for an energy, tenacity and spirit belied by her petite 5-foot frame, spent nearly seven decades as an activist. She was credited with inspiring and guiding generations of elected officials in the city.

Most associated with her commitment to women’s rights, Kahn was also a strong fighter for civil rights and a key organizer for the party who never flagged even in days leading up to her death.

“She was always going to fight to the last breath, and she did,” her daughter, Elizabeth Kahn, said Thursday.
