Edwards family evacuates after Louisiana Governor's Mansion floods
Gov. John Bel Edwards and his family are among those search for higher and drier ground as heavy rains and flash flooding across Louisiana.
Edwards confirmed rainwater had flooded the basement of the Louisiana Governor's Mansion in Baton Rouge during a Saturday (Aug. 13) press conference. Electricity at the mansion has since been turned off as a safety precaution.
Edwards said he and his family have evacuated to the Louisiana State Police Joint Emergency Services Training Center in Zachary until the severe weather blows over. Edwards and his wife, Donna Hutto Edwards, have three children.
"The water totally inundated the basement where we have a lot of electrical products and electrical systems," Edwards said, adding residents across the state may be experiencing similar precautionary outages.
