11 children injured when school bus overturns after crash with pickup truck in Greensburg (LA)

Thirty-eight children were on a school bus when it overturned Monday morning in Greensburg, Louisiana State Police said.

Investigators said as many as 11 children and the school bus driver suffered minor to moderate injuries in the accident.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Dustin Dwight said the school bus was making a legal left turn from the northbound lane of Louisiana Highway 43 when a pickup truck, also northbound, attempted to pass several vehicles and struck the bus.

St. Helena Schools superintendent Kelli Joseph said the pickup driver was cited for careless operation and passing in a no-passing zone. Joseph said in an email that all students were taken to hospitals for examinations.

Greensburg is about 45 miles northeast of Baton Rouge.
