Demonstration planned to protest governor keeping non-essential businesses closed
AUGUSTA, Maine — There is a demonstration planned for Monday in front of the Blaine House, protesting the governor’s orders to keep non-essential businesses closed.
The organizer of this demonstration, State Representative Chris Johansen, has listed it as a peaceful social distancing demonstration to re-open Maine’s businesses.
Part of the Monday rally and demonstration includes a motor brigade, with Johansen’s social media post asking participants to wear their MAGA hats, and to wear masks or bandanas to show compliance with CDC safety guidelines. CBS 13 reached out to Representative Johansen, who declined to comment and instead referred us to participants planning to show up. One of them, Larry Dunphy, says he’s a concerned citizen who wants allowances for at least some parts of the state to re-open small businesses.
“I think my message to the governor and to the legislature is that let’s take a look at this, let’s re-evaluate, let’s be proactive rather than reactive and let’s not politicize this; let’s do what’s right for all of Maine,” Dunphy said.
