Just got back from Maine
Another great trip to MDI and Acadia. I'm glad I have a friend who moved up there
![]() Favorite restaurants: 1. Common Good (for popovers, oatmeal, & coffee); a soup-kitchen that makes breakfast Fri-Sun and uses proceeds to fund their efforts. You make a donation as payment. Had live music (a couple with acoustic guitars--very nice). 2. Eat A Pita. Good pasta dishes and--my favorite--blueberry bread pudding. 3. Archie's Lobster (in Tremont on the island). Killer views of Bass Harbor, cornhole games set up, plenty of space, BYO, awesome food (and homemade blueberry pie). 4. 2 Cats (in Bar Harbor). Great breakfasts, great biscuits. 5. Blaze (in Bar Harbor). Wood fired pizza. mmmmmm. The trip from Delaware took a little over 11 hours---including about 3 gas/rest breaks. I made it to Boston before needing gas, then made it the rest of the way. Went up the Mario Cuomo Bridge way, went near Hartford, then back east the rest of the way. On the way home ended up on the Merritt Parkway due to an accident on the other route and it was nice, too. Some traffic getting off the MC Bridge around 4:30 (I had noticed traffic that way also in the morning on the way up). All and all---not too bad. Little Long Pond: ![]()

1. Glad you had fun,....
...waved as you went by the central Maine area (Lewiston/Auburn) as you drove by up to MDI.
Acadia National Park is a beautiful area. |

2. Thanks
All of the northeast seemed nice, once I got past Boston. Not to over-generalize, but here I go:
The rest areas I encountered in Massachusetts were nasty (both ways). I'm going to have to time that out better next time. |

4. I love Sweet Peas for pizza, but I dunno if it's even open now. Glad you had a great trip. It's
turned muggy again, so you left just in time. Lol

12. Nice
It was muggy my first day or two. Lots of mosquitos, but my Cutter and OFF bug repellents seemed to work OK. My friend said the locals recommended picardin-based bug stuff, but we seemed to have the same amount of luck. It may be more natural, though, so I'll get some and try it here.

13. Much of my Maine time was spent in Portland and Acton, Maine which is near the N.H. border.
That was mid 70's to 98, when I sold the condo. Portland then was more fun. Second hand stores on Exchange Street, Art movie house, $1.00 movies that were subsidized by the town - Chamber of Commerce or whoever.
Now it is just Starbucks, The Gap and so forth. I still go back but not often. I may go to the Dark Sky Festival in September, depending on the weather forecast. |
