Maryland bank VP stole from elderly, deceased customers, prosecutors say

From 2010 to mid-2016, 54-year-old Melissa Strohman of Nottingham, Md., was senior vice president at the now-defunct Hopkins Federal Savings Bank with branches in Pikes­ville and Highlandtown, court documents said.

Strohman withdrew money from six customers’ bank accounts to pay her family’s mortgages, property tax and credit card bills, a statement from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland said, and also transferred money between accounts to cover up her theft. Three of the customers she took money from were at least 80 years old, according to the statement, and two accounts were for people who were deceased.

Strohman faces up to 30 years in prison, prosecutors said.
