WASHINGTON A MARC passenger train struck a truck in Montgomery County Monday afternoon causing its Brunswick Line to be suspended for the evening commute.
A MARC train struck a train maintenance vehicle around 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of Seminary Road and Forest Glen Road in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police.
Police say were 600 people on board when the crash occurred. No injuries have been reported.
All of MARCs Brunswick Line service is suspended with no estimated time of restoration.

O.K. - maybe one in a million a car or truck will break down or run out of gas on a railroad track. But, for the life of me, when this type of thing happens, I would like to really, really understand how it happens. I mean, it's not like the train leapt out of the bushes and attacked the truck. It's not like the train is a wee little thing that the truck drivers couldn't see. For god's sake , it a fuckin' train.

(59,842 posts)the dump truck was a railroad maintenance vehicle, what is known as a hy-rail vehicle. That is, it has retractable wheels so that it can travel on the tracks. For example:
This was not, as I had first suspected, a case of somebody's going around lowered gates to try to beat the train across the crossing.

The MARC Brunswick Line returned to normal operations Tuesday morning, but officials warned of potential delays and crowding. On Monday, a train crashed into a dump truck on the tracks in Montgomery County, suspending service for nearly three hours.
