Senate seeks to require special law for spending on Olympics

BOSTON —The Massachusetts Senate has passed a measure aimed at guaranteeing no tax dollars are spent hosting the 2024 Olympics without approval of the Legislature first.

The Senate approved the proposal Wednesday as an amendment to its version of the state budget.

The amendment bars tax dollars being spent on "procuring, hosting, aiding, facilitating, or remediating the effects of" the Olympics unless lawmakers approve a special law first.

The Republican-sponsored amendment also calls for at least one public hearing before allowing money to be spent on the Olympics.

1. This is getting tiring. We don't want it and we know what will happen.

There will be billions spent that will fall outside the 'no public funding' promise.
I don't like the paragraph posted with its ambiguous wording...

2. It's for show. Just like you said, the people don't

Want it and we know it's going to happen anyway. Lawmakers will point to this vote and say they tried their best when people people figure out it's a bad deal. They'll be several more votes like this one too, over the next few years.
