Republicans push for Pilgrim license

In todays Cape Cod Times May 23

Unable to copy and paste so reparaphrasing a few paragraph while adding my own comments

US Rep Fed Upton R-Mich, Joe Barton R-Texas John Shimkus R-Ill and Ed Whitfield R-KY (all reside Opposite of the the jet stream)
signed a five page letter to push the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to extend the operating license of Pilgrim Nuke Plant
and additional 20 years.

The plants 40 year old current license expires June 8, but Entergy can continue operate the reactor until the NRC makdes a final decision on
the license.

The 4 congressmen have received more than $40,000 over the past five years from a PAC established by Entergy, the plants Lousianna based owner.

MEANWHILE.....

Employees at Pilgrim are set to strike. Their Union represents about half of the employess and are in heated contract negotiations ( unsafe staffing issues, health insurance coverage, stagnent wages) The current contract was extended to May 25 to allow the negotiations to continue but both sides are still far apart from settling.

"nothing could more clearly dramatize the need for Entergy to keep the people who know Pilgrim best in that plant at work keeping this region safe," Utility Workers Union of America Local 369 presedent Daniel Hurley said about the shutdown.

Entergy, which sent what the company called "nonessential" employees home when the contract originally expired last week, has brought outside contractors in at a cost of $85,000 per day and could lock out workers if a new agreement isn't reached by Friday, according to Hurley.

AT this same time Cape Down Winders, Occupy Cape Cod, and Cape Codders for Peace and Justice will be preparing for pre-trial conference for
their May 20th action attempting to deliver a letter of concern to the Entergy Pilgrim Plant Manager. Of which the Entergy manager refused, and 14 of the group crossed through the open gate knowingly trespassing to highlight these concerns and were arrested. They will claim self defense from the
daily assault of "daily safe-level radiation releases"

YESTERDAY- The plant shut down the reactor due to a condenser problem. (Scabs who are unfamiliar with the Mach 1 plant????)

if the plant fully refuses entrance to employees due to a strike the will fly in other Entergy employees from facilities that ARE NOT MACH 1 plants.
They don't know the equipment people. AND THIS IS SAFE HOW??????
