Agawam Council backs voter ID for election integrity

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – The Agawam City Council approved a resolution supporting voter identification requirements.

The measure aims to strengthen election integrity and enhance public confidence in the electoral process. The resolution passed with a seven-four vote, with Councilors Bitzas, Borgatti, Calabrese, McNair, Mercadante, Russo and Suffriti voting in favor. Councilors Hendrickson, Rickmon, Rossi and Sandlin cast votes against the resolution.

The resolution asserts that free, fair and transparent elections are fundamental to the American democratic system. It highlights that maintaining public confidence in election integrity and accuracy is essential for trust in government institutions.

City Councilor Cecilia Calabrese, a long-time council member who has worked at the polls and ran for elected office, supported the measure at Monday’s council meeting. Calabrese stated, “Voter Integrity has always been an important issue to me.” She also claimed, “Back in 2022, when I ran for Senate. An organization contacted me a few years after that. They had found that there were 870,250 more votes counted than voters that actually voted.”

Sounds like a "some people are saying" kind of BS.
