Michigan snowfall predictions: See how much your area could get during winter storm

(Detroit Free Press) Areas of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula are expected to get more than a foot of snow as a winter storm blasts that part of the state Friday and into the weekend.

The region is under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. Sunday.

High end potential snowfall includes accumulations up to 20-30 inches in Grand Marais and Munising, according to the National Weather Service.

....(snip)....

Lower Michigan will dodge major snowfall Friday, but a weather system will bring some accumulation. Expected snowfall will be higher in the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo regions. Metro Detroit is expected to see less than 1 inch. ...............(more)

...Michigan at K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base. We were there until September of 1986. The 4 winters we spent there forever changed our perspective on what "a lot" of snow is. I was already not easily impressed, having grown up Rochester NY in the Lake Ontario snow belt that runs from Buffalo to Syracuse.

Quite the contrast when we were next stationed in the Washington DC area at Andrews AFB, where everything gets canceled and the bread-and-milk lines form at the grocery stores if snow is even predicted, let alone if it actually falls.

Average winter snowfall in the UP is 200+ inches a year -

There is a very tall snow gauge in one of the towns up there -
