National Association of Counties: Only three Michigan counties have recovered from Great Recession

That many?

http://voicenews.com/articles/2016/01/16//news/doc569911793cb4c753236633.txt

If county economies are the building blocks of state economies and ultimately the national economy, 2015 brought reasons to celebrate and reasons for concern.

The good news is "close to half the counties saw growth across all indicators in 2015, a 15 percent increase over the previous," wrote Dr. Emilia Istrate, research director for the National Association of Counties, and Dr. Brian Knudsen, research analyst, the authors of a new study of county economic wellbeing.

The bad news is that only 7 percent of all counties in the United States have returned to pre-recession levels of economic vibrancy.

In Michigan, only three counties have bounced back from the Great Recession of 2009 – all of them clustered around Grand Rapids....

There are far too many of the sincerely Evangelical persuasion here, who believe in a Higher Power who is always on their side, the best of all possible worlds, and their family advantage, and all sorts of things that don't exist for any length of time under stress...or a power shift.

Because they weren't living in the cities or working in the auto industry, the Fundies are doing fine. Everyone else can go to hell, as pre-ordained by their compassionate God.

Or move to another state, which those who could, did try to do. It worked in the 60's, 70's, 80's, but it doesn't work any more. Trouble is, the other states aren't doing any better now. There is no escaping this dreadful economy anywhere in the West. Maybe nowhere on the planet.

I suspect he numbers of Democrats and Independents in Michigan is insufficient to effect change, although I cannot find any numbers on that. Putting the governor in jail for lead poisoning all the people of Flint wouldn't even change their stone hard hearts.

seen this same type of movement of people and attitudes. Once the good paying jobs went to China and Mexico, the hatred drums came out and the Preachers fearing loss of their so called flocks started to beating them to scare the crap out people with false equivalencies and half truths, and the rest is now history.
