(6,955 posts)It would be nice to have someone leading the party with a working set, be they literal or figurative. He is far too complacent. We are in a heap in Michigan, and the majority of the people are like deer caught in the headlights, frozen, not knowing what to do to save themselves. The assault on the working people, and those who would like to be working but can't find one of those promised, yet invisible jobs Snydley said he would create, women, teachers and other public workers, the poor, the desperate, our cities and school districts, the environment, and our election system is constant and there is no end in sight. Every day I check for new bills and legislation coming from this abusive legislature and it almost takes my breath away.
Maybe that's Brewer's problem, because I hear very little coming from his windpipes.

(840 posts)It's actually impossible to nominate anyone (other than Mark Brewer) for the office of State Chair.
The Convention Chair simply will not recognize anyone trying to make a nomination.
Mark Brewer is the UAW's boy. He's not leaving.

(84,260 posts)I would go to conventions during an election year and watch one candidate after another withdraw for various offices because the back-room players got behind specific people. It was so depressing that I quit going.

(28,151 posts)And it was awesome. Granholm's boy, Scott Bowen, was suppose to be the candidate for AG, if we went by the script.
Well we didn't. We nominated Amos Williams who actually cared enough to campaign for our support at convention. He traveled beyond GR even! Often! Came to all our events! Bowen couldn't be bothered.
There was almost a floor fight but by gawd we got Williams on the ballot. It was pretty cool.

(28,151 posts)Sadly it was born from another situation of ramming a chosen one down the convention's throat previously. The base had had enough.
Fortunately Cox is out but Shuette got in during the tea-baggers' sweep in '10.
While '12's a big year, locally I am thinking '14. Due to various reasons we won't be spending huge money on any campaigns this year. I'm am using the excitement that always comes with a Presidential election to build a war chest for '14.
Shuette is rapidly becoming a special project of mine and don't get me started on Snyder, Bolger and the rest of those evil creatures.

(11,147 posts)...but his time may be very short. This SHOULD be his last chance to forge tangible gains for Michigan Democrats. Gains in the House? Gains in the Senate? Gains in the Supreme Court?
Without significant gains for the Democrats in AT LEAST two of those three groups, then Brewer should go.
We should have been working to re-take the house, but we're behind 64-46.
We should have been working to re-take the Senate, but we're behind 26-12.
Republicans have a 5-4 advantage in the Supreme Court.
In fact, it's kind of sad that we can only think about "significant gains" instead of "re-taking" one or both houses of the legislature.
If we can't re-take the Supreme Court during a Presidential Election year, with the political winds blowng in our direction, then Brewer should go. If he can't cut into the Repblican leads in both houses of the legislature, then Brewer should go.
WHO will replace him?

(11,147 posts)He's been Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party since 1995. How'd you do in trying to take over the Michigan House Mark? How'd you do in trying to take over the Michigan Senate, Mark? How'd you do in trying to take over the State Supreme Court, Mark? How'd you do in trying to protect workers in Michigan, Mark?
YOU'VE FAILED MISERABLY IN ALL FOUR AREAS. You should resign and you should resign NOW!

(5,039 posts)He's useless. Republicans OWN the Legislature and NOW look what happened. One by one, our rights are eroding. Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go.
