Foster parents would keep gun rights under new bill

LANSING, MI - The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services could not take gun ownership into account when placing foster and adoptive children under a bill introduced by Rep. Holly Hughes, R-Montague.

The issue came to her attention, Hughes said in a press release, after Michigan foster parents sued to keep their gun rights.

According to their lawsuit, William Johnson and his wife, Jill Johnson, of Ontonagon, foster parents to their grandchild, were surprised when caseworkers asked for serial numbers of their guns. William Johnson alleges a casework told him, "if you want to care for your grandson you will have to give up some of your constitutional rights."

DHHS has rules around how guns are stored in foster homes, including locking up guns and ammunition in separate areas. The lawsuit against DHHS Director Nick Lyon alleges their second amendment rights are being infringed on.

These grandparents don't want to follow standard, NRA-type safety rules about storing guns and ammo separately? WTF is wrong with them? With a child in the house? The Constitution guarantees your right to keep a loaded handgun under your pillow or on top of the refrigerator? Is that what we're talking about?

And these are not just any old foster parents. These are the kid's fucking grandparents, who we have to assume love the kid and don't want him/her to blow his head off accidentally or glob forgive shoot grandpa's dick off.
