Mayor declares March 15 Ruth Bader Ginsburg Day in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, MI — Mayor Christopher Taylor is officially declaring March 15 Ruth Bader Ginsburg Day in Ann Arbor.
In recognition of what would have been the late U.S. Supreme Court justice’s 88th birthday, Taylor issued a proclamation he plans to read at Monday night’s City Council meeting, describing her as “an inspiring role model for women” and a “champion of civil rights for all people regardless of gender.”
“RBG was a force of nature,” it states, noting she earned the nickname “The Notorious RBG” as a cultural icon.
“RBG was a modern feminist role model advocating for gender equality, LGBTQI rights, women’s reproductive rights, fair pay for all and affirmative action,” the proclamation states, pointing out Ginsburg was one of only nine women in her Harvard Law School class in the 1950s, among about 500 men.
