Is there any news on the Unemployment overpayment?

I still supposedly owe close to $8,000. I've been fighting it since August and it still hasn't been resolved. I may try to set a date with a judge. Has anyone else had luck with this?

those that rec'd overpayments pay the $amounts back.

I am kind of favoring a very extended repayment schedule since these people are the ones that needed the help and don't have tons of cash lying around.

Ridiculous what the state is doing, since it was their screw-up.

Perhaps instead of making them pay for it (the overpayments), in one lump sum, simply make a bookkeeping notation in the entries for that person to reduce future benefits by X amount of $ overpayments?

Or, in some states, they're forgiving the overpaid balances, I think.

Good luck to you.

But of course, it's never with a person who can make a decision, so it's been a waste of time.

Here's what I've told them. I did everything according to the rules. I'm a freelance writer, or as they term it, a gig worker. I contacted them several times while applying for unemployment and when applying for extensions. I had them look over the paperwork to make sure I did everything correctly and that I was qualified to receive the payments. In other words, I wasn't trying to cheat. They said everything was in order.

Then in August I was notified my unemployment was being cut off and I owed them over $13,000! I've been battling them ever since. The amount somehow was reduced to $7,900. But I still supposedly owe it. Even though it was their screw up! Go figure.

ATM are notorious for giving more money. Trust me they get it back. This must be repaid but I’d go as low as 20 a month until paid. Hopefully the government will be reasonable. But no matter what, it was not the persons money to begin with, and must be returned!
