OP
A terrifying sight. I saw one rip through Standale (near Grand Rapids) around 1955 or so.

Give or take 3 or 4 years. I don't recall exactly. But it as a horrifying sight.
On edit: Google says it was 1956.

(38,834 posts)3. I was 2 months shy of my first birthday when it ripped the roof off our house -- we lived in
Montcalm County at the time. I obviously don't remember it, but I think I have it stored in my unconscious because storms have always fascinated me and still do to this day. When I was a kid, I used to have frequent dreams about tornadoes, like I would see one coming and try to run, but couldn't go anywhere or I'd see one coming towards us and try to yell for everyone to take cover, but no sound would come out. Yikes, lol.
