For days, Hennepin County attorney candidate Martha Holton Dimick has been hounded on social media about whether she had an active law license, which is required to run for county attorney.

Her adversaries had good reason: She submitted an expired license when she filed for the office, even though state law requires that she submit an active one with her paperwork. Further muddying the picture, she deactivated the license in August before recently reactivating it.

Faced with questions on Thursday, her campaign sought to clear up the confusion. Her campaign spokesman, Jacob Hill, said she inadvertently produced a copy of an expired license, even though she had an active license.

“She pulled out one of her old cards instead of the current one,” Hill said.

1. Why would anyone make a big deal about this?

2. Because at best it's sloppy and the explanations get weirder as you go along?

3. Not at all. Law licenses look exactly the same every year,

and if you didn't toss the old one when you got the new one, it would be easy to grab the expired one and send it in or a copy by mistake. I sometimes forgot to throw away my expired one (I might still have one even though I'm retired now). She was always current as far as the state was concerned; her license had never lapsed. It's a non-issue.

4. That Omar twitted about this is one more reason for me to vote for Martha

5. I saw that - it was out of line. I'll vote for Martha because I think

she has a better background to be the county's chief prosecutor, though Moriarty would be OK and I won't be upset if she wins. But I'm liking Omar less and less these days; I'll be voting for her only because she's the Democrat (fortunately it's a safe seat).

6. I'm sticking with Mary

I think Martha will just be more of the same and we won't be able to tell Freeman is gone. I hope Mary will bring a different perspective and ideas to the office. Mary seems to be more interested doing a better job of integrating county services and finding better ways to intervene with at risk kids before they're in trouble. And, from my perspective, it doesn't hurt that the current "powers that be" aren't fond of her.

But, at least we'll have a Democrat in that office no matter who wins.

7. I still don't understand how Dimick is in the race

after losing the primary.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I voted for Moriarty, in the primary and the general.

That said, I don't think this is a big deal.

8. Technically, the primary is non-partisan so Democrats & Republicans both run in it

The two candidates with the most votes move on from the primary to the general and that would be Moriarty and Dimick.

There were 7 candidates running in the primary, Moriarty got 36% of the vote, Dimick received 18%, (Ryan Winkler was next with 16%)

I'm supporting Moriarty but I fear Dimick will win - I think she's the candidate most Republicans will prefer in the general & too many of the Democrats who didn't support Mary in the primary will go with her.

They are pretty adamant about it too. They really don’t like Moriarty. I ignore it.

There are a couple of houses in my general area of South Minneapolis who have her sign, but also have signs for Jensen, Crockett, and Davis (who is the R running against Omar).
