The FBI is renewing a call for the public’s help in identifying a man who was seen inciting violence in the protests that followed the murder of George Floyd in 2020.

Tuesday, the FBI asked for help identifying the man, who has been referred to as “Umbrella Man.”

The man was seen breaking windows at AutoZone on Lake Street on May 27, 2020, and was also spotted vandalizing the Minneapolis Police Third Precinct.

In the pictures shared by the FBI Tuesday, he’s seen wearing a black baseball hat with a gold or yellow logo and the letters L, M and C, as well as a black shirt with an unidentified picture on it.

Officials are asking anyone with information that could help identify the man to call 1-800-225-5324 or submit a tip online.

The Autozone was set on fire shortly afterward - the first fire of the George Floyd riots. Interesting that he's still at large after 2 1/2 years.

. . . In a 2020 search warrant, a Minneapolis police investigator identified the suspect as a Ramsey, Minn. man and alleged he was a “known associate” of the Ayran Cowboys white supremacist gang. MPR News is not naming the man, now 34, because he was never arrested or charged.

After social media users wrongly named the suspect as a St. Paul police officer, and rumors of his involvement spread online, the department released surveillance video showing the officer on duty at a St. Paul Police training center at the time of the vandalism and fire.

And we already know who he is, apparently. Minneapolis police arson investigator Erika Christensen issued a July 27, 2020, search warrant that identifies Mitchell (Mitch) Wesley Carlson, from Ramsey, Minn., as Umbrella Man.

But there was never any follow up on the search warrant, nor explanation why Christensen was never arrested.
