If you've wondered what's on AM 950 KTNF (Twin Cities progressive talk) and found the weekend schedule on their website ( http://www.am950radio.com/schedule/ ) to be a mess, and has been a mess for several months (as well as an out-dated FAQ page) -- I wrote to them a couple of days ago. Their response is below the "===" line. I don't know what to think -- anybody who knows a teeny bit about HTML can conjure up a web page with the schedule. I hope "soon" means soon.
I wonder why they dropped membership. It would be nice if they used the extra money that brings in for a lot of things -- promoting the radio station, replacing one of those awful weekend snake oil salesmen informercials with something progressive, getting rid of certain advertisers like the debt settlement companies, ... the list goes on.

Just a heads up. We've been having MAJOR problems with our "new" website. The web developer dropped the ball on us and we've had large difficulty editing the site. Another new site that works fabulous will be coming soon. Thanks for your concern

(6,391 posts)I think it was destined to fail.
Janet Robert is anything but progressive.

(10,901 posts)And, without this station, then the righties will have a 100% monopoly of talk radio in Minnesota. I know some "progressives" don't care, they don't think what people listen to matters or what opinions they are exposed to matters. The reason we get slaughtered at the polls election after election after election since the 1990s -- unless things get so ridiculously awful like the Iraq War situation in the lead-up to the 2006 midterm elections, and the financial catastrophe in the leadup to the 2008 elections -- so ridiculously awful that even your average goober recognizes a need for change -- is because of rightwing talk radio with barely any progressive radio to counter all that.
I really don't care what Janet Robert's views are on abortion rights or whatever it is she is so awfully wrong about. I care what's on the station. To take the full weekday lineup as an example, are Bill Press, Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Harmann, Nancy Nelson, Matt McNeil, Mike Malloy, and Norman Goldman all "half-assed non-progressives"? Or "anything but progressive"?

(24,926 posts)I love the station. I'm just not a fan of Roberts personally.
I don't want the station to fail, I just question the commitment of someone to a progressive radio station who isn't a progressive.

(10,901 posts)The only thing I remember hearing, vaguely, is that she is "pro-life". If that is all that is "wrong" with her, it wouldn't be enough for me to declare her a "non-progressive". Though I'm "pro-choice" myself, I can understand and respect the view that a fetus is human life and that abortion is not that far removed from infanticide.

(1 post)I stumbled on this conversation while googling AM950. I have worked at AM950 since 2004 and Janet Robert is as progressive as they come. Listen to AM950, clearly we are progressives.
A handful of corporations dominate the media. A locally-owned radio station in a major market is a rare thing.
In nature, there are not just two types of butterflies. Yet in current human culture, we seem to exist in a Walmart/Target; Pepsi/Coke; Google/Bing; Post/Kellogg type of world.
We need to support independent businesses like AM950 and our marketing partners.
Opposing dominate systems requires incredible energy. Together, it is easy.Teh new website should be up March 1st. Enjoy
