2014 Election Commericals are off and running, first Stewart Mills ad is running

I was watching and I saw the US Chamber of Commerce is running their first commercials for Stewart Mills in the Twin Cities on My29. Only a small part of MN-8 is in the viewing range. If they are starting in early May there are really deep pockets who want him elected in MN-8. Normal MN standards are to not start running them until after Labor Day.

and his commercial was running on channels 4 & 5 as well during the local news. My treadmill was positioned so I could see the TVs with those stations on best I didn't notice if he was running on 11 as well but I imagine it was there.

With only reaching the southern part of MN-8. I would expect it to be running on Duluth TV stations. They really want Nolan's seat.

Edit: I found out more about it: It is a $3Million buy for 10 candidates, a minimum of $300,000 towards Stewart.
http://www.minnpost.com/dc-dispatches/2014/05/chamber-commerce-launches-ad-supporting-mills

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce included 8th District Republican candidate Stewart Mills in one of the group's first big advertising buys of general election season.

The Chamber is up with a $3 million ad buy supporting ten Republican congressional incumbents and candidates around the country, per the New York Times. The buy, according to the Times, “comes as the chamber plans to pivot from supporting primary candidates to focusing on general election candidates the group believes will help grow a pro-business majority in the Republican-controlled House.”

All of the ads are tailored for the specific candidate they support, and Mills' focuses on his business career and what he's said he would do to create jobs if he defeats Rep. Rick Nolan this fall.

The 8th District race was one of the most expensive and closely-watched House contests in the country last cycle. Early indications are we could be in for round two this year: conservative groups like the American Action Network and Americans for Prosperity have already hit the airwaves in the district.

Second Edit:
http://www.minnpost.com/dc-dispatches/2014/03/coleman-group-launches-ad-buy-against-nolan

American Action Network spent $50,000 on Nolan's portion of the ad buy. The ad will run on Duluth-Superior cable for a couple of weeks, according to a group spokeswoman. Three Democratic senators and one other House member are targets of television ads; AAN is going after four additional House members with other digital ads, according to Politico.

American Action Network spent heavily against Nolan during his 2012 challenge against then-Rep. Chip Cravaack. Republicans think Nolan, who won that race by 9 points, is vulnerable this cycle, and conservative groups have already poured money into this race: Americans For Prosperity spent $225,000 on TV ads against Nolan last December.

So, in the end, $300,000 buy now, $225,000 earlier, and $50,000 earlier means it is only May and $575,000 has been spent on the Nolan/Mills race already.

usually start until after Labor Day is completely untrue. There are frequently primary races and they can be quite contentious.

This is general election way early. If you follow Wisconsin media (mostly Milwaukee media market), they run political commercials all the time, even on the off times for elections to push their narrative. I see that as a test case and these Mills ads as being the first start of this technique here. It will get here with the recent Supreme Court rulings on removing contribution limits and continuing fallout from Citizens United. Minnesota will not be immune to this trend.

where the candidate appears and is paying for it. Sen. Franken has been recently running TV spots.
