Everyone else in the Minnesota delegation voted on party lines --
Democrats Ellison, N; McCollum, N; Nolan, N; Peterson, Y; Walz, N.
Republicans Emmer, Y; Kline, Y; Paulsen, Y.
The 242-184 roll call Wednesday by which the House passed a bill banning most abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy.
A "yes" vote is a vote to pass the bill.
Voting yes were 4 Democrats and 238 Republicans.
Voting no were 180 Democrats and 4 Republicans

While I'm at it, I just ran across this -- waiting periods as long as 72 hours and multiple clinic visits so that women have time to make "a careful decision" ... (politicians to women: "you emotional irrational creatures need to be forced to take extra time to think this through. THINK WOMAN!" )
... "This doesnt stop an abortion," said Mary Spaulding Balch, director of the National Right to Life Committee's state legislation department. "This just gives the mother time to reflect."

(28,057 posts)In both cases the babies had been planned and were very much wanted.
In both cases it wasn't until that point that horrible anomalies became clear on the ultrasounds. One set of parents were told the baby wouldn't make it to term and in the other case that she might go to term but the child would never take a breath as the lungs were not developing at all & there were several other problems.
Both mothers chose to have labor induced so they could have that experience and hold their children. One family donated the baby's body in the hopes that it could would help research into her anomalies.
It was a terrible experience but it would have been worse had they been forced to continue the pregnancies knowing there would not be a happy ending.
I hope every last one of the fools who support or voted for this law go through something similar. And, yes that is an awful thing to wish on anyone, but I'm fed up with these sanctimonious assholes who give no thought to the people they are hurting.

In all seriousness, thanks so much for your post - it was very educational to me. (Not that I ever supported a 20 week limit! But it gives me ammo when some idiot yammers about fetal pain -- supposedly the rationale for the 20 week limit -- and a scientifically very dubious one at that)
