First hour at grocery stores is for seniors

Twin Cities grocery chain Lunds & Byerlys has changed its hours in response to the coronavirus, and wants to make the first hour after opening specifically for those at high-risk from the disease.

The Twin Cities grocery chain announced its stores will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, reducing hours to "help ensure the well-being of our staff, replenishment of our products and an even deeper cleaning of our stores."

What's more, it's asking customers to observe its new policy that the first hour of business, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., be reserved for those who are most at risk from COVID-19.

Heard that Trader Joe's and Kowalski are, too.

I forgot a few things and was wondering what to do. I'm 70 and healthy. Husband is 71 with a heart condition. This is a great relief to us.

all I want is an artisan loaf of bread. I couldn’t believe how bare the bread shelves were.

Managed four stores yesterday in three hours with drive time. Petco, Petsmart, Total Wine and Cub. When we run out of fresh fruit and veg I will be at Lunds at 7 AM.

midnight to five. Then today I pull up at five and they were not opening until seven. Part of my strategy was to go even earlier than five to avoid crowds. If they let seniors have the first hour, then we early birds are in there latter in the bigger crowd. In my town anyway, I bet not enough seniors would get up that early and go anyway. Now if you give them a couple hours or more on a specific day, or even three days, I can deal with that. Just make sure they get Sunday I suppose. That would be the best day for many that might have friends or relatives helping.

Early isn't a problem for most I suspect. This really is a good idea even if it inconveniences some.
