Iron Range mayors pitch Trump with Pence

https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/government-and-politics/6628320-Iron-Range-mayors-pitch-Trump-with-Pence

“There’s many people in northern Minnesota who truly are Republicans,” Two Harbors Mayor Chris Swanson said, describing a blurring of what had once been solid Democrat country. “They truly understand what’s going on.”

Swanson joined five other Range mayors in timing their Trump endorsement with Pence’s arrival at the Clure Public Marine Terminal.

The reasons people are supporting him when interviewed :
-
I don't consider him a politician," Arenz, of Savage, Minnesota, said of Trump. "He's the president of the United States and the president of the world. What he's doing by stopping endless wars wouldn't have happened without him."

"I don't care what comes out of his mouth," Klein, of Richfield, Minnesota, said of Trump. "I care that he has balls.”
-
Do people in Lake Superior Upper MN see this area as really turning R ? Or are these just the few that are coming out for trump and the area will remain quite blue?

1. This is a mining war

Mining jobs vs tourist jobs

After the mines destroy the watersheds, the tourism jobs will die off. And the folks who run the outfitting places, lodges fishing guides, etc will stop bringing liberals to visit their small towns to fish, camp and canoe in places like the BWCA. Which will make these folks happier yet.

By the time it happens it’s too late.

7. I grew up in a small northern wisconsin township

I know from northern " shoot a pack of wolves a day" rednecks--they voted out mining there, mostly

When we went to Ely last summer: it was 2 different worlds:
--the outfitters place just as friendly as can be
--the local "we support mining" bar: full of jerks. With my tie-dye and shaggy hair, I hung out there just to piss them off

2. Were that it was true....but Trump only SAYS he has balls...in reality, he is a ball-less coward.

Cadet Bone-Spurs and Sargent Syphilis are appropriate labels for that clown, yet people willingly delude themselves to believe what they WANT to believe, not what reality shows to be true.

They picture themselves as just waiting for their train to arrive and their big break to make them millionaires, so they fight to protect tax rates of people that quietly and privately CACKLE at their plight and their very existence. They buy any story, any fiction, any lie as long as doing so puts them on the side of the "winners" and "owns the libs" and is intentionally evil and harmful.

Trump has no balls. Trump is absolutely the lowest of the pond scum that have been feeding off of the fears of lower class whites forever. He is a racist bully, a blowhard idiot and a completely vile human being. The sooner that fucker dies of a stroke or heart attack or both, the better the world will be. God willing, Junior, Ice Princess and Beavis will all be overcome with grief and leap from Trump Tower a la Ophelia after madness envelopes them all.

4. 538 Agrees

This is not concern trolling, it's math. The trend in Minnesota over the last 30 years or so has been pretty consistently to the red. This should get the Biden campaign's attention, IMHO.

8. I have now lived in Minnesota for four years...

what do you mean 'going red'? So far, the only place that I have seen that could be considered 'blue' is St. Paul, and then only parts of it. I dunno about Rochester, or Duluth, but around here is is snow-ass white and red-ass neck, depending on which part of town you are in. And, to think I had to listen to all the sarcastic (but nicely worded!) remarks about being from the south... the irony is delicious, but the reality is pretty scary.

9. Like all states, the population centers --MPS, Roch and Duluth -- are solid blue.

The suburbs are a mix depending on several variables, the exurbs and rural areas are mostly red. The Iron Range was interesting because for a long time it was dependably blue in a rural area.

18. And like the nation as a whole. The Blue areas of the state pay the taxes

that keep the Red areas afloat.

25. Anyone from the Range, and many from Duluth, will tell you it absolutely is not.

Lots of maps floating around highlighting the counties where the Iron Range is located. But it's simply a region crossing those counties, and Duluth is not in that region.

of the range? Though I defer to native Duluthians.

10. Not surprising

Minnesota is divided between the Metro area and the "outstate." Trump lost Minnesota by the smallest margin. Also, depends who will show up to vote. I am afraid that many of the protesters in the streets of the metro area will not bother to vote. And,it appears that we will lose the seat of the 7th District.

5. They probably think Donnie will rescue iron mining

Yeah, right. The same way he “rescued” the coal mining industry.

I hope some Democrats remind Iron Range of Donnie’s unenviable record.

6. Drum those "looking out for themselves only" mfers out of the party.

They think the majority of voters up there are repugs so they come out for the orange traitor covid bungler to save their own ass. If it's so anti-Dem up there how did they get elected as Dems in the first place?

Drum them out.

11. They were not elected as Democrats. These are nonpartisan races. They claim they've voted Democratic

in the past. I know at least one is lying and describes himself as a Republican.

15. I'm Asian and live in the Twin Cities

I would never throw my support for a pussy grabbing, draft dodging, tax cheat, racist, traitor, adulterous, lazy, person who happens to be another Asian. So why do magat Whites vote only along color? Asians, blacks, brown, gay, lesbian folks — we aint trying to take over. We just want to contribute and do our part to make this country a better place. We aren’t the greatest country anymore, we’re a laughing stock to the world.

17. Suppose to be an article about Iron Range mayors

and they quote two "Bikers for Trump".

One from Richfield & one from Savage. Both of those cities are in the metro area a long, long way from the Iron Range.

The Richfield mayor is Maria Gonzalez and is a DFLer (though the office is, technically non-partisan). The mayor of Savage is Janet Williams, I don't know which party she identifies with.

I hope they're fired soon.
