Cascade County cancels 2020 State Fair due to coronavirus concerns

Cascade County commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to cancel the 2020 Montana State Fair due to health and financial concerns tied to COVID-19.

The decision came at a special meeting via video conference that was attended virtually by 164 people.

In their decision not to conduct the fair July 24-Aug. 1, commissioners cited concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

“I would say it would be impossible with 8,000 people on the fairgrounds to control that," Commissioner Jane Weber said of enforcing social distancing that would be required.

I am also proud that our local and state officials have taken this seriously. Yes we have had a few shut down protesters but that hasn't stopped reasonable people from carrying on with masks and gloves in public.
