THANK YOU GREAT FALLS! GFPD's Sergeant Beall has expressed his thanks to the citizens

From Great Falls, MT FacebookPage

THANK YOU GREAT FALLS! GFPD's Sergeant Beall has expressed his thanks to the citizens that were in the path of yesterday’s vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit started at 2nd Ave S alley and 4th St when Beall attempted to pull the suspect over for failing to stop. A pursuit entailed but, after the suspect nearly lost control of his vehicle and almost tripled his speed, Beall determined the pursuit to be a drastic danger to the public. He slowed down and shut off his top lights and siren. The suspect, though often slowed by heavy traffic, continued to drive erratically and very fast, but he never left Beall's sight.

Beall said that, at this point, the other drivers in the suspect’s path seem to know what was happening and, though his lights and siren were not on, they pulled out of the way so he could continue to follow the suspect.

The suspect turned west onto 10th Ave S then north onto I-15 where Beall, and fellow officers, activated their top lights and sirens and attempted to stop him again. The suspect drove straight toward another vehicle and, after missing it by only a couple of feet, he took the Central Ave W exit and stopped. Here he taunted the officers by allowing them to approach his vehicle, waiving at them and taking off again.

Ultimately the suspect turned onto a dead end street, exited his vehicle and fled on foot. The officers pursued him through three yards and Beall gave him orders to stop multiple times. Once the officers got close the suspect finally gave up and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect, identified as Michael McVey, has a revoked driver’s license and is on probation for prior vehicle pursuits. He was taken to CCDC and charged with: fail to stop when emerging from alley, motor vehicle not properly registered, revoked driver’s license, fail to provide proof on insurance, attempt to elude, criminal endangerment and obstructing a peace officer.

Beall said if not for the quick thinking and actions of the other drivers in McVey’s path he may never have been captured. He said it felt like a team effort, the police and the citizens working together to make sure the suspect was apprehended safely. Thanks for backing the blue Great Falls.
