Denise Juneau launches campaign for Montana's U.S. House seat

BOZEMAN -
A woman is taking a swing at representing Montana in US Congress, Which is something that hasn't been accomplished in more than 70 years. Montana's superintendent for public instruction, Denise Juneau, announces today she will be running for the u-s house in next year’s election. Many people are calling Denise Juneau's campaign announcement a historical move.

"Two things that define us demographically and for which we have not had... You know we don't look in congress like we look here, is having a woman and an American Indian representative," said Franke Wilmer, a political science professor at MSU.

It's been nearly 18 years since a democrat held the congressional seat for Montana, and more than 70 years since a woman did so.

"We have only had one woman ever represent Montana in the senate or the US house and it was the same woman. She served two terms. So given our history, and the fact that half the population is women, I think it's a great move," said Wilmer.

If the DNC gets funding to her,she could pull this off. She has to fight the Coal-Oil-Lumber Lobby and of course they are represented by Male Lawyers out of Billings. Does Max Bauchas have a dog in this?

They use to provide help in organizational and recruiting staffers and raising funds. It has been 14 years since I was involved in a Congressional Campaign, with Wasserman-Schultz all bets are most likely off. Bozeman has the highest per capita income in the state as well as the greatest concentration of monied persons. If her campaign works the College Towns and gets the kids involved, she should do it.

it is the moderate branch of the Republican party. I am seeing Liberal people running for office for the first time in years, I think because of Bernie I guess. We will find out when Louisiana has the runoff. Probably the big thing will be super Tuesday as to what is going to happen.

Was very active in Wisconsin Democratic Party in the late 50's and early 60's,and it appears on the surface we are seeing many similarities. Most important of which is,the Youth Activity via the College Students. Another is how Mr. Sanders has energized many dormant politically inactive Democrat's much like Kennedy and Humphrey did in the 62' election cycle. Seems the one's that can capture the new Social Media audience will be the winners. Mr. Obama said,we Democrats have to sell our Policies and Ideals to the rest of the Nation,if you have a great product and you don't market it,shut the doors and turn off the lights.

Jeannette Pickering Rankin (June 11, 1880 – May 18, 1973) became the first woman to hold a high government office in the United States when in 1916 she was elected to the United States Congress from the state of Montana. After winning her House seat in 1916 she said, "I may be the first woman member of Congress but I won’t be the last." She also was elected in 1940.

Rankin's two terms in Congress coincided with U.S. entry into both World Wars. A lifelong pacifist, she was one of 56 members of Congress (including 50 in the House) who voted against entry into World War I in 1917, and the only member of Congress to vote against declaring war on Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

I appreciate all that Denise has done for Montana citizens at the state level.

I agree with the comment that DNC could do more for local elections. Amanda Curtis could have used more support from the National and State Dems.
